Jan Gassmann

Born in 1983, Jan Gassmann is originally from Zurich where he currently resides. In 2004, he began studying documentary filmmaking at the HFF Munich. His first feature-length film, Chrigu, was presented at the 57th Berlinale and was successful in theaters. It earned him awards at the Berne and Zurich Film Prizes in 2008, as well as the Walo Prize in 2009. Jan Gassmann followed up with the fiction film Off Beat, selected for the Panorama of the 60th Berlinale, and Karma Shadub, winner of the International Jury Prize at the Nyon Festival. In 2015, he co-directed Wonderland, which made its first appearance in the international competition at Locarno. In 2016, his film Europe, she loves, about four couples on the outskirts of Europe, became the opening film of the Berlinale Panorama. He won several awards and was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize and the European Film Prize. In 2022, he directed 99 Moons, produced by Zodiac Pictures. This amour-fou premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Acid section. The film has been sold to more than 25 territories and was nominated for two Swiss film prizes (Best actress / Best Cinematography).
